In Memoriam: Dr. Hae Mi Choe
ANN ARBOR - AI & Digital Health Innovation (AI&DHI) is deeply saddened to learn the passing of Dr. Hae Mi Choe following a courageous battle with an aggressive form of leukemia.
Dr. Choe served as Associate Dean for Pharmacy Innovations and Partnerships at the College of Pharmacy, Chief Population Health Officer at Michigan Medicine and Executive Director of the Michigan Institute for Care Management & Transformation with Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan (BCBSM).
A pioneer who revolutionized how pharmacy care is practiced, Dr. Choe worked on numerous transformative initiatives with AI&DHI, and her passion served as the driving force behind establishing the groundwork for how we operate today. In the reflections that follow, AI&DHI Co-Directors Dr. Brahmajee Nallamothu, Dr. Jenna Wiens, and Dr. Sebastian Zoellner share the profound influence and impact Dr. Choe had on both AI&DHI as well as on all who had the privilege to know and work alongside her.
From 2018 to 2021, Dr. Hae Mi Choe led AI&DHI's implementation workstream. In this capacity, she played a pivotal role in facilitating the integration of machine learning models and new analytic modules into clinical workflows.
Dr. Choe demonstrated an exceptional ability to collaborate across diverse groups and committees, acting as both a connector and a catalyst for innovative projects. Her deep understanding of the clinical domain, combined with her fearless pursuit of technical knowledge and her commitment to enhancing patient care, enabled her team to successfully deliver numerous initiatives at AI&DHI. These included implementation projects aimed at integrating genomic indicators into patient care, guiding infection prevention efforts, and reducing unplanned readmissions.
Dr. Choe was recognized as a dedicated and selfless colleague, consistently identifying opportunities for improving patient care and driving them to fruition, all while inspiring those around her with her enthusiasm and optimism. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
Memorial Service
A Memorial Service honoring Dr. Choe's life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Michigan Union Rogel Ballroom (530 S. State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109). Refreshments will be served immediately following the service.
