Discovery
We are available to meet with you early in your research to understand your needs and plan for potential translational ideas.
We provide interactive communities to help generate new scientific knowledge and insights. The discovery projects we support often have no application in mind. The outcomes are new theories, concepts, and discoveries of new pathways that might inform future applied research.
We also have partners throughout the university who have established early stage research support services. Once we understand your needs, we can connect you to the appropriate teams.

“The MPrOVE team developed the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) model to predict if each specific surgical case is appropriate for surgery at an ASC. AI & Digital Health Innovation provided expertise early in the discovery process needed to plan for prospective model validation and implementation. They are amazing partners helping the digital health research community apply practical solutions to the challenges of clinical teams.”

Translation Services
We offer the expertise necessary to guide researchers in transforming scientific discoveries into effective interventions, treatments, or tools.
We are experts at translating basic research into practical applications by pinpointing specific needs. Our role is to collaborate closely with researchers to fully understand their work and its anticipated impact. We then identify potential challenges in translating the research to clinical settings and connect researchers with the right partners to overcome these obstacles.
By working together, we can transform your research ideas into interventions ready for clinical trials and real-world use.

Pilots and Clinical Trials
Pilots and clinical trials test the feasibility, design, and clinical impact of your research. We ensure that your pilot/clinical trial is an extension of workflow integration by taking a holistic approach to implementation.
We help guide you through the complex logistical, regulatory, and technical challenges inherent in clinical trials. Leveraging our evidence-based approach will help ensure your pilot/trial at Michigan Medicine is completed on time, within budget, and with reliable data that can support the intended scientific and medical conclusions.
A clinical trial/pilot will help identify any potential issues with your research and allow you to make necessary adjustments to maximize the effectiveness of the results. Expected outcomes include clinical prototypes, safety and efficacy data, patents, and the establishment of evidence supporting the practical use of a discovery.

Clinical Handoff
AI & Digital Health Innovation facilitates handoffs to ensure long-term clinical use of interventions that have completed the pilot/trial phase.
When your research reaches the clinical implementation phase, the goal is to integrate the new intervention into real-world settings, ensuring that they are effectively adopted and used to improve public health and patient outcomes.
Research that is approved for long-term clinical use at Michigan Medicine requires a clear handoff between research and clinical operations. Our team assists with this handoff, sharing the appropriate knowledge with HITS to ensure a smooth transition from research to clinical maintenance.
We also work closely with Innovation Partnerships to ensure a successful handoff to their team. Innovation Partnerships will ensure IP protection and search for potential licensees to take the innovation into the marketplace.
